    Emotional Eating

    Food is really good, and enjoying eating is a huge part of living to the fullest.

     

    Throughout most of the cultures of the world, eating plays a huge role not only for survival. Food is important for socializing, satisfaction, exploring experiences, and just overall well-being both of the body and mind.

     

    However, the problems begin when food becomes a source of comfort during times of stress or pain, and even boredom. Sometimes, especially when individuals are going through a difficult time, their relationship with food gets a bit out of hand and they begin to overeat. There may be seemingly few other sources of comfort in their lives, and food might also remind them of pleasant social times they had in the past.

     

    When we stop eating for hunger, it is difficult to know when it's time to stop eating. This is because we're eating for mental pleasure, not physical or social need. Therefore, our bodies' signals telling us that its full tend to go unnoticed and the emotional eating continues.

     

    Emotional eating is one of the most difficult things to overcome when you're trying to lose weight. It sometimes becomes a vicious cycle where the emotional eater realizes they are gaining weight, but then can't seem to stop their emotional eating. This causes more stress, and makes the cycle worse.

     

    That is why it's important to change our approach when it comes to emotional eating. Many emotional eaters go on diets in an attempt to shed the pounds, but it rarely works and crash diets are very harmful to your health.

     

    If we approach the problem as being an imbalanced lifestyle rather than just a case of overeating or weight loss, all the pieces fall into place. A healthy lifestyle implies the person has methods in place to effectively deal with their stress and pain, and that they have a good relationship with food and exercise.
