    MySpace

    November 8, 2009

A place for friends, MySpace is an online community that lets you meet your friends' friends. The social networking website is with an interactive, user-submitted network of friends, personal profiles, blogs, groups, photos, music and videos for teenagers and adults internationally.

After the 2002 launch of Friendster, several eUniverse employees with Friendster accounts saw its potential and decided to mimic the more popular features of the social networking website in August 2003. Within 10 days, the first version of MySpace was ready for launch. A complete infrastructure of finance, human resources, technical expertise, bandwidth and server capacity was available for the site, right out of the gate, so the MySpace team was not distracted with typical start-up issues.

The very first MySpace users were eUniverse employees. The company held contests to see who could sign up the most users. The company then used its resources to push MySpace to the masses. eUniverse used its 20 million users and e-mail subscribers to quickly breathe life into MySpace, and move it to the head of the pack of social networking websites.

MySpace operates solely on revenues generated by advertising, as its user model possesses no paid-for features for the end user.

The Chinese version of MySpace, launched in April 2007, has many censorship-related differences from other international versions of the service. Discussion forums on "inappropriate topics" are absent, and a filtering system that prevents the posting of "inappropriate topics" has been added. Users are also given the ability to report the "misconduct" of other users for offenses.

MySpace sounds like a pretty safe place as long as you don't post your personal information there because you don't know who might read it and another suggestion is not to meet up with people you meet on the Internet because you don't know who they are.

The more different your Myspace layout is, the more it will make you stand out from the crowd. Myspace layout creates a brand for the user.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand we live in a social networking world.

Many artists use MySpace to create personal portfolios of their work. MySpace is an attractive option for artists, because it allows a wide segment of the Internet community to get a glimpse of their artwork for free. MySpace also works as a networking tool to allow artists to contact people, businesses and groups they might never reach using conventional means.

While the open and public nature of this site makes it possible to share videos and good times with friends, it also means that anyone could be watching right along with them.

Practice good security habits with your password. Include at least one number or special character and one uppercase letter in the password (for example: B1ngo).

MySpace is losing users, with a serious drop-off in visitors.

Keep in mind that the most important aspect of the MySpace community is your group of friends.

Have pictures, MP3 files and any other information handy as you create your site. This will allow you to get a functional site up and running within your first visit.

Second only to Facebook, the most popular social networking service on the Internet is MySpace. Millions of people have MySpace profile pages detailing every last detail of their lives, ranging from which movies they like to what they ate for breakfast. One of the ways to make your profile stand out above the rest is to add a playlist of your favorite songs. You can do this for free not through MySpace itself, but through a number of other services designed expressly for this purpose.
